Advantages Of Compact Digital Cameras

Compact Digital Cameras are simple to use with no complications in their operation. Today, the compact digital cameras are available in different versions. Features are similar to mobile phones with many options and you can quickly filter the features not used by you. Compact digital Cameras are offered by leading brands like Nikon, Canon, Panasonic and Fuji and so your choice is wide for selection. Compact digital cameras are portable and small camera devices and the smallest are referred to as subcompacts. They are designed for easy use and with features of high picture quality.

The images can be stored using only JPEG compression. They have in-built flash with low power and motion picture feature. They can take pictures of long range with sharp focus. Compact digital cameras are ideally suitable for snapshot and casual use.

The compact digital cameras can transfer data when connected directly to your computer. Traditional cameras have been using serial port but today the USB is widely used. Some companies offer FireWire port or the Bluetooth in their devices. Bluetooth is a wireless network that can be used by digital camera and also by other devices for exchanging information with a computer.
Subcompact Cameras are tinier than the Digital cameras. You can easily fit the same in your pockets and purses. It gives you the advantage of carrying almost everywhere and is the handiest one. The only disadvantage is its price, which is more expensive than the digital cameras and you will have a few manual controls. This also leads to over-exposing pictures.

For photographers, while traveling, their choice is the ultra compact digital camera. Though it is smaller in size, its performance is amazing. Some cameras have fantastic in-built zoom packed and give you extraordinary picture results. The mega pixels number varies from three to eight within the various brands of cameras available. Some cameras have digital zoom but for unbelievable picture quality and clarity you should go for cameras with both digital and optical zoom.

The battery life of these cameras varies and the quantity of pictures taken will depend on exposure type. Many Compact digital cameras have inbuilt movie mode along with sound. If you plan to capture action in your camera, then you should be sure of extra battery available with you. Before purchase, you have to compare prices and performance of all the models available. If you are planning to buy a particular model, select the model number. Otherwise compare technical opinions of the compact digital cameras available in the market. Size of the device is very important and the digital technology advancement has definitely increased the sales of compact digital cameras. Though they are dimensionally convenient, the way of use is a little difficult because of its smaller controls.

Features in these cameras keep on changing and improving. They are presented with speed activation and self -adjusting zoom by which the lenses capture fast motion shots. If the compact digital camera does not have the speed-setting feature, it cannot be used in a light-changing environment.

The compact digital cameras are getting smaller day-by-day that it has reached the size of credit card and can produce decent shots. Traditional cameras had heftier counterparts, but the camera size is not a matter since the compact digital cameras deliver superb pictures and never let you down with regard to quality and clarity.

The Portable Digital Photo Gallery

Previously we used to take pictures; get them developed and put them in an album and that album would be kept high up on the cupboard top or on a closet top where no hands can reach. We would feel lazy to even get up, pull that album, blow the dust and view those pictures to refresh our memories. Later came in the digital cameras which made our life a bit easy. Using the digital cameras we were able to take hundreds of photos and keep them piled up in paper albums, or store them on our hard disk or burn them on a compact disc. But again viewing the photos in those albums or switching on the computer to check them was another task. We always wanted a device which will help us to store these photos in one place so that we can enjoy their viewing whenever we want. Then came in the age of digital photo albums, I am sure we all must have heard about the digital photo albums which are not new but the one which we are reviewing is definitely a most comfortable digital photo album to use.

Money Selling Digital Photographs
Jul 3rd, 2009 by admin

Tips To Make Money Selling Digital Photographs

The first task for any digital photographer is to create an attractive portfolio and also to organize photos in an accessable files on your computer. Limit your photos to about 20 per file and use names that will help you to easily locate them when the need arises.

Photo quality is extremely important so try and get it right from the start as editing photos will reduce their quality and may therefore be rejected by the leading stock photogaphy sites. Make sure the camera settings are fixed at an optimim resolution - VERY IMPORTANT. Another good tip is to keep the sunlight directly behind you and for indoor photography using the flash and closing curtains will produce better quality shots.

For basic cropping and image resizing use Photoshop Elements 6 as other free online software will reduce the quality of photos for these basic editing procedures. The software is available at Adobe.com and I can also recommend some excellent training videos for Elements 6 provided by LearnElementsNow.com that will show you some excellent editing techniques that will actually improve overall photo quality.

Never miss the perfect shot, so remember that digital photos can just be erazed, so always take 3 or 4 shots of your subject image. I could add to that and say never leave your digital camera at home as you never know when the perfect shot could arise and a mobile camera just isn’t good enough for the strict photo quality standards.

Now I have already mentioned stock photography sites that are the basis for making money from your digital photographs and they don’t accept just any digital photographers work and supply a small test that needs to be passed before you are allowed to submit your digital photos for sale on the stock photography sites. This is why the overall quality is so important otherwise you will have wasted your time and resourses.

Once you begin to submit your work don’t get over zealos and just present your very highest quality photos otherwise potential clients will be put off. Presentation is the key to success so that is why the organisation of photos is all so important right from the first photo. Just one more point regarding the photo files and I would definitely recommend that you use the JPEG format as other file types may be rejected by some stock photography sites.

Apart from the stock photography sites there are a whole range of other photo business options whereby you can literally turn your photos into cash.

Top Tips To Avoid Digital Photo Rejection
Jul 2nd, 2009 by admin

Selling Digital Photos Top Tips To Avoid Digital Photo Rejection

The most important tool for this digital photo business is of course the digital camera. The quality of the images is down to the mega pixel capacity of the camera and if you want to avoid your photos being rejected by the stock photography sites, you will need at least a 5 mega pixel digital camera, and make sure it is set to maximum resolution.

Never submit more than 50 photos at a time and be careful not to upload the same photo twice, as this will also lead to possible photo rejection and even to account closure. To avoid this happening, don’t change the file name as your PC will point out any duplicates, and then when you are have a batch to upload change the file names accordingly. Windows has built in software for multiple file name changes, so it is just a question of a few clicks and won’t be a time wasting exercise.

Keywords is basically the second most important factor after quality, so a bit of research will certainly help increase your photo sales. Try using the Google Keyword Tool found here:- You can also have a look at similar photos on Google images, just to see what Keywords the front page images are using, but don’t over do it or you will be seen as a spammer. Use between 6 and 10 keywords to get optimum results and this way your photos won’t be rejected.

So as I said quality is the main determinating factor to avoid Photo rejection, so make sure that the images are not out of focus, and that the light balance is even. Also if your photos may be too large in size, especially if you aiming at optimum quality, so my suggestion would be to use either Adobe Elements or Adobe Photoshop to reduce the sizing, as with this software the quality will not be affected. If you need to make an image larger, don’t go over 5% as the quality will be reduced significantly.

Finally don’t submit any image that has previously been rejected. It’s better to take that shot again, but this time paying attention to the above guidelines, as this way your photos will hardly ever be rejected and your photos will make you a lot more money.

Digital Camera Accessories %u2013 Necessary Accompaniments

A digital camera is a necessary in the present era. To enhance its stimulating experience there are many accessories available in the market.

A memory card is one of the most important accessories of a digital camera. Memory cards are used to store the pictures we take on digital cameras. They can be equated with hard disks in computers.

Camera manufacturers usually fit their gadgets with low storage media cards. This is a mainly marketing technique, to make users buy additional memory cards for increasing the storage capacity of their cameras. Smart Media, Memory Stick, Compact Flash etc are all different type of memory cards. It is also possible to re-use memory cards, after saving the required photographs on the computer, or copying them on CDs etc.

Now days we can go anywhere with an ultra-portable, high-speed USB flash drive that provides a convenient solution for storing, transferring, and sharing multimedia and more. These USB flash drives are available both in a variety of capacities and capabilities to fit our storage needs.

Batteries are the fuel of digital cameras. Some digital cameras come with rechargeable batteries. Cameras are commonly sold with battery chargers to enhance their buy ability. It is always desirable to stock an extra pair of batteries. Digital photography tends to become tedious due to limited battery life.

Tripods are the stands that help us to take shots in a better way. Therefore, if we want our photographs without blur and have a professional touch we can use tripods. Camera tripods have been around since the dawn of photography and are a guaranteed way to improve steadiness and decrease “camera shakes”. . A tripod is a must-have for anyone who takes more than a couple.

For protecting our cameras, we can purchase stylishly designed cases to make sure that we are always in style and camera is protected. Many great looking cases are now on offer as well. They vary from the large and quite costly soft leather cases to the smaller and more affordable carry pouches.

For underwater housing, we can take our digital cameras on snorkeling and scuba diving trips to take the same quality of vibrant pictures underwater as well as on land with the help of waterproof kits. Underwater photography is a rapidly growing genre, especially now that the equipment required has dramatically reduced in cost.

Other accessories under the same category include waterproof halogen lights that work as deep as 75m below the surface of the water and numerous color filters to balance the overwhelming blue watercolor. Each accessory will add its own unique and distinct value to any digital camera.

Factors In Choosing A Digital Camera
Jun 29th, 2009 by admin

4 Most Important Factors In Choosing A Digital Camera

By now everyone is familiar with the term ‘Megapixel’. This term is now what is mainly used to distinguish between different digital cameras. Essentially, the number of megapixels is a measure of the cameras resolution. ‘Mega’ meaning ‘millions’ and ‘pixel’ is a term that comes from the computer industry (that was first used to describe a computer monitor’s resolution) and is derived from the words ‘picture’ and ‘element’ (Pix-el). So a 6 Megapixel Camera comes with a sensor that contains 6 million picture elements.

Any digital camera you find on the market today are highly automated with automatic features for exposure control and for focusing. The days of film are gone and now images are stored on a memory card (Flash Memory).

You have probably noticed the huge number of cameras available and the many different types. How can you pick from all the different megapixels, features, zoom, etc. Here are the 4 most important factors in making a decision on which Digital Camera to purchase.

1) Megapixels

Try not to get too caught up in the number of Megapixels offered. Even though there are cameras available to the average consumer with up to 10 (and even more) megapixels, the normal photographer and even most professional photographers can be very satisfied with even 7 megapixels.

More megapixels does not mean a higher quality photo. Other factors can be more related to the picture quality such as the lens and other features in the camera. More megapixels are only required if you frequently crop and/or significantly enlarge your photos.

2) Zoom Capability

First, make sure you know the difference between ‘optical zoom’ and ‘digital zoom’. Optical zoom is actually done with the lenses of the camera while digital zoom merely magnify the center of the frame without actually increasing the detail of the picture. Most all cameras offer at least 3X optical zoom.

If you opt for more than this, the trade off could be size and weight of the camera. The reason to select a higher zoom range than the typical 3X is if you will frequently shoot subjects that are at a distance away such as wildlife or sporting events.

Most compact and sub-compact digital cameras have a zoom range higher than 3X (some as high as 7X). Super zoom cameras typically have zoom range above 10X. For SLR cameras the zoom is completely dependent on the lens that is mounted on the camera. Most SLR’s come with a lnes to allow up to 3X magnification.

3) Full Control or Automatic?

A compact digital camera that is fully automatic that has at least 3X of optical zoom will meet most people’s camera needs and even the needs of the more serious photo hobbyist. If you tend to shoot more photos of sports and/or outdoor subjects such as wildlife and nature in general then you may want to steer more toward the Digital SLR (DSLR) cameras.

The DLSRs offer the most flexibility in lens selection and manual features that allow the photographer to manipulate the exposure time as well as the aperture settings. Also, DSLR cameras offer a wider range of ISO settings (think light sensitivity) to allow shooting in lower light situations then the standard compact digital camera.

4) Brand

Typically most brands offer similar features at similar price points. But some things to keep in mind that are known within the photography community; Kodak is on the front edge of offering simplicity and ease of use for the photographer while Fujifilm offers image sensors with proprietary technology that give excellent image quality. Canon, Nikon and Olympus offer an amazing wide range of cameras that would satisfy any type of user.

Deciding on a Digital Camera can be tough with all the choices available, but if you can decide on the 4 main criteria described here it should make your decision much simpler and more satisfying that you have spent your money wisely.

4 Most Important Factors in Choosing a Digital Camera

With cost being from around $100 to many hundreds of dollars it is important to make an educated decision. This article describes 4 most important criteria in making that decision.

Affordable digital cameras
Jun 28th, 2009 by admin

affordable digital cameras

For most people the day of loading film into a camera are long gone, and today more people buy digital cameras than traditional film based ones. It isn’t hard to see why. With the cost of digital cameras down to the point where it is no more expensive to buy a good quality digital camera than a film based one, there’s no financial reason any more. Not only that, but when it comes to the cost of film, and processing, there is a very great deal to be said for the savings represented by a digital camera.

Buying a 24 exposure film for a traditional camera could set you back about five dollars. To have that film processed could cost you another ten dollars. That’s sixty dollars for a hundred photographs. Using a digital camera you could take as many photographs as you please - hundreds, thousands or millions, and it will never have to cost you a single cent.

How many times, with a film based camera, have you wondered whether you got the picture all right? Did someone blink? Was the light all right? Did something blow across the lens? Was it how you imagined? There’s no way of telling, and your choices are either take another one or two pictures - all of which wastes precious film and costs money, or risk it, and find out days or weeks later. By that time, of course, the opportunity to take the image again may well have been lost forever.

With a digital camera you can often see the photo immediately you have taken it, by looking at the built in LCD screen. This allows you to see the image, and even zoom in closely to make sure that no one is blinking, and everything looks just right. If it isn’t right, you can easily delete it, or simply take another one.

In fact, if you’re trying to take a picture of something moving, such as an animal, a child or a boat, you can easily just keep on clicking, taking dozens, scores or even hundreds of photos of the subject. Even if you have to discard 99% of these pictures later, the chances are good that you’ll find at least one or two that are absolutely perfect.

In this way, the odds are greater that you will end up with the sort of image that could have taken a professional photographer a lot of time, effort and expense to set up, but with almost no effort on your part, and certainly very little expense.

A few years ago it was true that film based cameras could still capture images at a higher resolution, but these days digital cameras are available with such a high pixel count that there really is little difference. In some cases it may even be that the digital camera’s picture quality is better than a film based camera’s picture after it has been scanned in.

Being able to easily transfer those pictures directly to a computer, edit them, organise them, and email them or upload to the internet so that you can share them with friends and family make digital cameras one of the must have tools today.

8 Tips For Protecting A Digital Camera’s Memory Card

8 Tips For Protecting A Digital Camera's Memory Card

It’s Monday evening, you’ve made it through the first day back into your routine after a much needed and memorable vacation. You pull out the memory card from your digital camera thinking you’ll download the photographs that record the spectacular sights, reunions with seldom seen loved ones, and memorable events that you experienced in the previous days.

But then the unthinkable happens. With your digital camera in hand you connect to the PC but the photographs can not be retrieved; they are lost. What could cause such a catastrophic failure and more importantly, how could a repeat of this scenario be avoided?

The way that memory cards for your digital camera are handled, used, and stored can greatly influence the length of their useful life and dependability. Observing a few precautions can be the difference between the disappointment of lost images and the pleasure of having pictures with which to reminisce.

Avoid physically damaging memory cards:

avoid exposure to direct sunlight and temperature extremes

protect memory cards from exposure to moisture and store in a low humidity environment

do not write or put stickers on the cards

store cards in a protective case or leave them in the camera to avoid accidentally breaking them or getting dirt or dust on them

Protect memory cards through proper use:

keep the batteries of the digital camera fully charged to assure they don’t fail while shooting pictures as a failure may result in lost images and permanent damage to the card

be sure data has been saved, the process completed, before removing the card from the camera or card reader; it’s best to turn the digital camera off before removing the card

move images to the computer to edit rather than editing photos on the card itself

delete images and re-format the card in the digital camera after downloading on a regular basis

Although the failure of a digital camera’s memory card is a rare occurrence, the results can feel tragic nonetheless. Observing manufacturer’s guidelines and some of the precautions reviewed above can help to circumvent the unnecessary loss of photographs.

How Dare I Clean The Sensor Of My Digital Camera

As an owner of a Digital SLR my worst fear has always been the cleaning of the sensor, or rather the cleanliness of the sensor. I’ve owned this fantastic camera for over five years and it’s a part of me. No other digital SLR compares to it in terms of quality or feel. It’s a canon 10D and I love it. OK it’s only 6 megapixels but who cares the quality is there. I also own a Canon 450D which just doesn’t feel right and I’m sure the focus is a little soft.

I upload quite a few images to the Microstock Photography market and I have had a few more rejections from the 450D for noise and quality issues than the ‘Built like a tank’ Canon 10D. I’ve spent hours testing and comparing the two. Each time I change my mind about which one will give the best results, it’s that close. How can a 6megapixel camera compare with a 10 megapixel camera in terms of quality? But the 10D delivers the goods and has never failed to.

Another plus for the 10D is that I can control it through my laptop and see the immediate results on the screen, very handy for still life. Anyway back to the sensor. It was whist I was shooting some isolated still life images, they always sell well in Microstock, that I met my worst fear. There on the screen of my laptop was an image of an old trainer which was pretty well exposed etc. But when I looked at the perfectly exposed white background it was covered in black marks. I went over to the set-up and expected the white paper to be covered in marks. It wasn’t, it was perfectly clean. Then it hit me the marks were on my sensor of my beloved 10D.

I’d not used the 10D in the studio for a while I had mostly used it for wedding and portraiture. Only because, rightly or wrongly, I have a theory that the bigger the Camera the more important you look. Anyway it must have been over three years since I had shot any isolated table top set ups on my 10D. The fact that I was shooting with studio flash at f22 highlighted the problem even further.

To cut a long story short I realised that I needed to get the sensor cleaned. It was a realisation that gave me that sickly feeling in the pit of my stomach. I started to search the internet for a easy but effective solution. Some of the info was good? Other searches supplied me with what I can only describe as horror stories. But I had to make a decision. Do I keep the 10D as a backup camera or do I attempt to clean the sensor with the possibility of ruining my camera. Decision made I decided to clean the sensor myself. I ordered a kit of the internet and dreaded the arrival of the equipment that could eventually kill off my beloved 10D.

A couple of days later the Postman arrived with a small package which I gingerly opened. Inside I found five spatulas with a fabric on the end a small bottle of fluid. The width of the spatulas was exactly the same as the sensor on my 10D I was assured. I read the very simple instructions and re-read the instruction book that came with the 10D, mainly to delay the actual act of cleaning the sensor.

It did emphasis that the battery in the camera should be fully charged so it would hold open the shutter and keep the mirror out of the way. I added four drops to the spatula and very gently dragged it across the sensor. I turned the spatula over and repeated the process. Looking into the camera I could see the solution evaporating rapidly. I turned the camera off and replaced the lens. Now was the time of truth!

I set the aperture to f22 a pointed the camera at the overcast sky and pressed the shutter. I took out the card and put it into my computer, opened up Photoshop at opened the file.

I was amazed the filth, or muck as we call it, had all but gone. There was an odd mark but far less than before. The sensor looked in perfect condition and I was delighted. I must admit that because of my new found confidence I did repeat the cleaning and the marks have now disappeared completely.

As a result my images are not only cleaner but they appear sharper, crisper but that could be my imagination, I don’t know. But what I do know is that after years of reading and hearing about the horror stories of sensor cleaning, never again will I hesitate to clean it. Of course I also believe in prevention rather than cure so I will take the extra care not to let the dust in as no doubt my confidence will diminish when the time comes to cleaning the sensor of my digital cameras.

My new camera, Canon Mark II leaves a fairly large sensor spot centrally in the images. I have done nothing so far exept putting on the lens initially.
